Originally planned as a traditional film festival, this human world 2020 was redesigned as a hybrid event to finally become this human world outlines. In cooperation with the festival APPEAR has selected two movies and invited guests for discussion. The online version of the festival makes it possible that this year the directors of the movie will also be present.
APPEAR is the Austrian Partnership Programme in Higher Education and Research for Development at the OeAD and a programme of the Austrian Development Cooperation.
The Perimeter of Kamsé is a movie about villagers in Burkina Faso who try to fight desertification and set out to seek guidance in the neighbouring townships. It is a tale of a community defying their own environment while facing the problems of urbanization and the danger of the approaching jihadism in the country.
The second movie Softie portrays a Kenyan activist and photographer. Together with his wife Njeri, he has been fighting for a long time for a corruption-free democracy in Kenya. Now he decides to become an active part of the political arena and decides to put himself up for election.
Both movies are screened in original version with English subtitles and followed by a discussion in English (ca. 40 minutes).
