Belachew Gebrewold, originally from Ethiopia, came to Austria in 1993 for his graduate studies and got a One World Scholarship. He pursued a MA in Peace, Security, Development and International Conflict, followed by a PhD in Political Science at the University of Innsbruck. In 2010 he habilitated in Political Science and International Relations at Universität Innsbruck / Bundeswehr Universität Hamburg. Belachew Gebrewold is now a professor of International Relations and the Head of Department and Studies of Social Work and Social Policy at the Management Center Innsbruck, Austria. His main research areas are African politics, conflicts and migration. His publications include various peer-reviewed articles, monographs and edited volumes such as “Africa and Fortress Europe”, or “Understanding Migrant Decisions”.
